Exhaust air cleaning & post-combustion

Exhaust air or exhaust gas cleaning is the removal of all harmful particles and components before the release into the environment or atmosphere. Exhaust air or exhaust gas cleaning is necessary for adherence to official and legal regulations with respect to the release of process exhaust air to the environment.

 

Thermal post-combustion (TPC)

Thermal post-combustion is an exhaust air or exhaust gas cleaning system based on oxidation. Depending on the process and/or clean gas requirement, working temperatures of 650 – 1200 °C with corresponding dwell times of at least 0.7 sec. are realised in the TPC combustion chamber. The thermal post-combustion is an optimised air-hygienic process, because the exhaust air or exhaust gas, with the exception of sulphur, halogens or other foreign matter that cannot be thermally decomposable, is completely converted into the harmless substances water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

Our thermal post-combustion plants offer a great deal of potential for heat and energy recovery in order to drastically reduce energy costs. The "thermal post-combustion" process is very flexible in terms of the type and composition of the exhaust air or crude gases to be released and, therefore, can be adapted to all conceivable processes.

Our thermal post-combustion plants are specially attuned to each customer's process and can also be adapted or expanded retroactively to further processes. For this purpose, they offer the possibility of the simultaneous release of exhaust air, as well as exhaust gases (crude gases) and liquids (condensates, etc.) – which is why our customers like to refer to the "Birk" TPC plants as "omnivores".

Our TPC plants are specially designed and adapted to the customer's installation location, whereby an affordable and effective exhaust air/exhaust gas cleaning can be realised in even the most constrained and minimal spatial conditions.

Regenerative (thermal) post-combustion (RPC) (RNV)

Regenerative (thermal) post-combustion is an exhaust air cleaning system based on oxidation and integrated heat recovery for the process exhaust air pre-heating. Depending on the process and/or clean gas requirement, operating temperatures of 650 – 900 °C with corresponding dwell times are realised in the RPC combustion chamber.

The regenerative post-combustion, like the TPC process, is an optimised air-hygienic process, because the exhaust air is completely converted into the harmless substances water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Regenerative post-combustion plants offer great savings potential through the integrated heat and energy recovery for the process air, whereby the energy costs are minimised or, in the case of autothermal processes, the use of electrical energy is reduced.

The "regenerative post-combustion" process is especially recommended for higher exhaust air volume flows and for processes in which no additional generation of process heat (warm/hot water, thermal oil, steam) is necessary or required. Our regenerative post-combustion plants are specially attuned to each customer's process and can also be adapted or expanded retroactively to further processes. Our RPC plants are specially designed and adapted to the customer's installation location, whereby an affordable and effective exhaust air cleaning can be realised in even the most constrained and minimal spatial conditions.

Catalytic post-combustion (CPC)

Catalytic post-combustion is an exhaust air gas cleaning system based on oxidation. With the use of appropriate catalysts, the reaction temperature of the exhaust air components is reduced considerably in this process. Depending on the process or clean gas requirement, operating temperatures of 250 – 400 °C with corresponding dwell times are realised in the CPC reaction chamber.

Catalytic post-combustion plants offer great savings potential with the low requirement of additional fuel through the reaction chamber heating, whereby the energy costs are minimised. Autothermal processes are already realisable with the lowest concentrations of harmful matter. The "catalytic post-combustion" process is especially recommended with exhaust air volume flows from the surface treatment industry, furniture manufacturing, painting technology, food and plastics industries or comparable applications. Our catalytic post-combustion plants are specially attuned to each customer's process and can also be adapted or expanded retroactively to further processes.
